5 Senses

We've been learning about our 5 senses and how they help us be better explorers.  We walked around the school grounds to look for things that are changing.  We are learning new words that mean the same as see, hear, smell, taste, or feel.  We've had fun whiffing, spying, rubbing, and many others!  What words do you know for one of your five senses?

At mass this week, some of our students were selected to help tell the story of the Apostles being released from prison by an angel!! Read the story in Acts 5:17-26.  See if the kids can tell you what happened... AND check out the pictures below!

UPCOMING DATES:

Happy Easter!

He is Risen!!
The kids have had a great time telling the HAPPY ENDING to the story of Easter!  We have sorted jelly beans, talked about how Spring in starting, and even used a special set of eggs to retell the story.  As we move on from this story, we are still reading a daily Bible story.  Make sure to ask what we are reading (or singing) about!

Math Workshops
We have begun our journey with combinations (simple addition / fact families)!  We will each have our own goals to work on through this unit.  Everyone moves at their own pace and practices on their goal number until they are mastered!  Any practice at home with counting is greatly appreciated to keep that fresh.  Everyone should be moving into larger numbers (under 100) and able to keep track of what they counted, tell one more or one less, and count by 10's.

Daily 5
Our dictionaries are quickly getting filled up!  These will be finished soon as we move into more free writing that will keep us all sounding out our words, writing sentences, and working with punctuation.  Encourage your child to help with writing at home.... grocery lists, agenda for what is happening, or just a fun story.  While we move on to these tasks, continue to review letters and sounds, too!

April Showers...we hope not!

Fourth quarter is off and running in Kindergarten!  Holy Week, disABILITY Week, and Easter make this a fast beginning... We will be finishing the year out with looking at our last year long theme component: In My Big Backyard.  We will look a little beyond ourselves by exploring more of God's creation in the earth around us.  There are lots of plants and animals that we are just curious about!

This week has been a lot of retelling the story of Jesus' last week on earth.  How are you and your family remembering Holy Week?  The next two days are full of activities that will help us remember the order and sequence of events.  Thursday afternoon, 2nd grade will act out the last supper.  We will be dismissed from the church afterward in silence.  Friday ends with the living stations of the cross, performed by our 8th grade.

disABILITY Week (so named to emphasis the abilities we all share) has been a great opportunity to review how everyone is created differently.  But even in our differences, we have a lot in common!  We like a lot of the same fun toys, cartoons, sports, or games.  We just may need help for some things.  We saw a puppet show and learned a little about CP (cerebral palsy).  The kids were very genuine in the curiosity. We asked good questions, and at the end, they were very clear on how much they had alike with someone that may have to use a wheel chair.  We were all able to identify an ability that we have that may be different than a friend!
